puppies and birds

The bigger she gets, the more Maya seems to be impressed with animals. In particular, she is mesmerized by dogs. Pictures in books, stuffed animals, dogs outside the window, accross the street, up close. I'll admit we have been coaching her a bit. Whenever we see a dog or a picture of a dog, we make panting sounds, and "woof" noises. And now, she's catching on. If you catch her in just the right mood, she'll show you what a puppy dog says.
We've spent a lot of time looking at her book of colors this week. On the yellow page, she can find the bananas and the duck. But sometimes she doesn't have any patience for the first few colors. She turns the pages quite deliberately to find the black and white dalmation. With a very cute grin, she starts rocking her whole body, breathing heavily "heh, heh, heh, heh, heh!", and "ooh! ooh!..." It's an especially convincing act when she's on her hands and knees.

But she also loves the birds at the end of the book. After hearing me chirp over and over while she pointed, she started to sing in a very tiny, high voice "teet, teet, teet." Honestly. It was probably the sweetest sound I've ever heard.

she's 11 months

and her excessively proud parents are finding her to be...

... increasingly charming, often gentle, loving, curious, bright, funny, clever, a bit strong-willed, unmistakeably stubborn, yet uncommonly patient and content, focused, delightful, strong, affectionate, silly, resourceful, creative, ....and old.

Almost a whole year.
